This new omnibus edition combines two of Ivo Peters' justifiably renowned photographic portraits of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. By popular demand we bring together the author's The Somerset and Dorset in the Fifties Volume One - 1950-54 and Volume Two -1955-59 to give a complete pictorial record of this line's steam operations in the fifties. Included are the main line workings across the Mendips including the ubiquitous 'Pines Express', and the more mundane local workings to Bridgwater; Bumham-on-Sea and Highbridge; and Wells. From the famous S&D 2-8-0s; the LMS 4-4-0s and Jintys; the 'West Country' Pacifies; to the introduction of BR standard classes and the first DMUs; this was a vintage period for S&D steam. Each facet of the route's operations is brilliantly captured by the doyen of railway photographers, Ivo Peters.
