Hardcover in Fine condition with Fine dustwrapper. First edition, pp 130, b&w illustrations. History of the engine sheds of the Glasgow and South Western Railway, a line inherited by the LMS. A small line with a very mixed lot of running stock that wandered through some pretty rough and wild highlands, the GSWR still had some of the most elegant sheds in Britain. Designed by Andrew Galloway, Engineer from 1875-1885, they had high roofs that carried off the smoke while the yards were arranged with a meticulous eye for workability, allowing for methodical processing of engines through the servicing sequence. Track plans for all GSWR sheds open in 1947 as well as engine allocations and some elevations.
