The chapter (8) on theory of plates can be considered still relevant which is very much based on the book by Timoshenko, "Theory of Plates & Shells". Chapters in the book included materials used in ships' structures, longitudinal bending, stresses in the structure & the calculation of deflection, dynamic effects, experiments on longitudinal strength of ships, measurment of strain & deflection, buckling of structures, methods for solving structural problems: local strength problems, grillages, transverse strength of ships, composite construction, structural discontinuities & superstructures, plastic theory, Classification Societies & their influence on the design of ships' structures. Some worked examples had been included. The text is being used in some universities & engineering colleges. However, the book is out-of-print and perhaps superseded by updated texts e.g. 'Ship Structural Design Concepts", "Marine Structural Design", etc. Generally, the book can be used for introductory level in ship structural design.
